Puncture-resistant materials like stainless steel, glass, or plastic help provide a secure child-resistant solution, but closures are the key to preventing accidents due to packaging. No package is ever truly child-resistant without the proper closure. In fact, most of what makes child-resistant capable bottles and containers safer packaging for homes with children is the type of cap you choose.

Examples of Child-Resistant Closures

The most common child-resistant closure for medications or household cleaners is push-turn screw caps. These caps come in a variety of shapes and colors and may contain written or pictorial instructions for opening on top. Push-turn screw caps are suitable for child-resistant containers, jugs, and bottles made of various materials. Industrial solvents and chemicals are often packaged in various sizes of seamless, stainless steel containers with triple threaded lug caps or REL caps. REL child-resistant caps with optional first use tamper-evident pull-tab diaphragms lock securely after each use, to deter access to harmful chemicals.
