Open top cans can be used to package and store a variety of products. They can hold anywhere from 4 to 105 ounces and include several different lid options. Choose from standard flat lids or lids with tabs for easy opening. Plastic snap lids are also available to make sealing already opened cans quick and simple. Steel open top cans handle wet and dry goods, including vegetables, soup, pet food, powders, and other industrial products. A popular use for steel open top cans is storing paints or automotive oils. Some companies use these containers to package canned goods like jam or fruit or fish.
Benefits of Using Tin-Plated Open Top Cans
When considering open top food cans, the composition of the can matters. Tinplate packaging is made using sheets of steel that are coated in tin. This coating is achieved by dipping the steel in molten metal, or by a process known as electrolytic deposition, in which an electric current is passed through the solution. This combination of steel and tin results in a can that is strong, and exhibits nontoxic and noncorrosive properties. Open top cans can be coated inside with acrylic to create a good barrier against product breakdown, or interaction with the metal, making them a viable choice for creating long shelf-life containers.
What Other Materials Are Used to Make Open Top Cans?
Metal cans not only include those made from tinplate, but also options made from stainless steel or aluminum. Both of these metals are similar in appearance, but quite different when it comes to weight and other features. Aluminum cans are very light, making them easy to carry and handle, while stainless steel cans are heavier, and have a low reaction rate with food products. Stainless steel can also be used with higher temperatures, and aluminum is typically more cost-effective. Low can weight, as in the case of aluminum, can also reduce shipping costs.
