Unpacking Sustainability Impact: Babo Botanicals
About Babo Botanicals
Babo Botanicals was born out of a passion for sustainable agriculture and the belief that nature’s gifts are the purest and most effective remedies. In 2010, founder Kate Solomon began creating high-quality, safe, plant-based personal care products for the entire family. Today, the Babo Botanicals brand remains true to its roots, with an enduring commitment to living in harmony with nature and positively impacting our planet.
Our Partnership
As part of their commitment to sustainability, Babo Botanicals set an ambitious goal of reducing their virgin plastic use by 75% by 2025. After meeting with our Global Sustainability Team and knowledgeable packaging consultants, they quickly discovered Berlin Packaging was the perfect partner to help them achieve their goal.
Our team analyzed the brand’s packaging portfolio to determine the best-fit sustainable packaging solution. We conducted life-cycle assessments (LCAs) to understand the measurable impact of various packaging options. And we assisted the brand with sustainability marketing to ensure their messaging was impactful, authentic, and credible.
“Several meetings and LCAs later, we are now their first go-to with any and all packaging questions or requests,” said Nelson dos Santos, Packaging Consultant at Berlin Packaging. “Our Sustainability team has brought tremendous credibility as industry experts and acts as a true sustaining resource. What’s cool is that a lot of the brand’s sustainability messaging comes directly from conversations and guidance from the Sustainability team.”
Our Impact
Berlin Packaging helped Babo Botanicals transition their hair care and body wash bottles to 100% PCR plastic. This was just the first step in reducing the brand’s use of virgin plastic. We then helped them launch their first eco-friendly refill pouch. The 32 oz flexible pouch is made with 30% post-consumer recycled plastic and uses 80% less plastic than two of the brand's 16 oz bottles.
Our in-house LCA determined that the pouch packaging reduces carbon footprint by 63% compared to the existing bottle. The refill pouch also lowers costs and adds lightweight convenience, quickly making it one of the brand’s top-selling SKUs.
