By: Berlin Packaging Specialist

Several defects can occur during the manufacturing process of glass containers. Here are some common examples of glass engraving and surface treatment defects, such as excessive or no cold end surface treatment and bad engravings.

Bad Engravings defect occurs when engravings on the glass are difficult to read to a greater or lesser extent.

Excessive Hot End Surface Treatment defect occurs when (tin) there is visible iridescence on the empty container, more obvious when filled; (titanium) barely visible or invisible mark on empty container, which gives the product a dark/purplish color (DE).

Excessive or No Cold End Surface Treatment defect consists of extremely slippery bottles on the filling line with possible label detachment or friction on contact between containers (scratching of bottles during transport or packing).
